NIGHTWATCH

How about a drink with your debate?

Thursday, September 25, 2008

WHO’S RIGHT?

The upcoming presidential debate will be getting screen time at the Right Wing Tavern in Woodstock. Located in an old train depot, the restaurant proclaims it serves politically incorrect American food. Owner-operator Jamey Snyder says to expect the debate on TVs, a special on Bacardi O Bombs, raffles and other surprises. Whether you’re saying goodbye to President Bush with a smile or a frown, you can commemorate his departure with the restaurant’s Busch for Bush special. Buy a pint of Busch beer for $2.75 and get the next one for 10 cents.

TAVERN POLITICS

Josh Hancock, a server at Manuel’s Tavern, says presidential debate viewings usually turn into standing room only. Every TV in the restaurant-bar, located at the corner of North Highland and North avenues, will be tuned to the debate with the volume maxed out. If it’s like it was four years ago, everybody will have something to say about it at the top of their lungs, Hancock says. Expect food and drink specials, too. Founder Manuel Maloof, known by many as the godfather of metro area Democratic politics, passed away in 2004.

THOUGHTFUL DEBATE

The first 2008 presidential debate promises thought-provoking moments. Staying true to its name, Thinking Man Tavern in Decatur will be a go-to spot for debate watching. In addition to showing the debate on its TV sets, the restaurant-bar will be rolling out a jumbo projection screen for the occasion. And the staff says to keep an eye out for food and drink specials throughout the evening.
