‘Megalopolis’ set to begin production in Georgia this November
It’s been an almost 40-year journey, but “Megalopolis” is finally gearing up to start production in Georgia.
Yes, you read that right. Academy Award-winning director, Francis Ford Coppola has been trying to get his passion project done for nearly 40 years. While there has been years of pushback and development issues, Coppola never gave up on his plan. The director already has a track record of making hit movies, as he’s responsible for some of the most acclaimed films ever made, like “Apocalypse Now” and “The Godfather.” While “Megalopolis” did seem to get close to the beginning of production in 2001 but the film was pushed back even more due to the September 11 attacks.
The movie is already in pre-production, with filming set to take place in Fayetteville, Georgia at Trilith Studios later this year, and continue until March 2023. ‘Megalopolis’ storyline is set to follow an architect’s attempt to reconstruct New York after a massive disaster hits the city. The cast has already shaped up to be a good one - Laurence Fishburne, who has collaborated with Coppola in “Apocalypse Now,” Jon Voight who also previously worked with Coppola in “Rainmaker,” Adam Driver (Star Wars trilogy), Academy Award-winning actor Forest Whitaker and Nathalie Emmanuel (Game of Thrones). There were rumors swirling that several other big names were set to join the film – including Oscar Isaac, Cate Blanchett, Jessica Lange, Michelle Pfeiffer and Zendaya; no word on if any of those stars are actually going to be a part of the project, yet.
Coppola is not only the director and writer of the movie but he’s also self-financing it – that’s how you know it’s a true passion project for him! After all this time, I’m really hoping the movie sees the success Coppola is hoping for. Since the project is still in the pre-production stage, we still have to wait for an official release date for the movie. We’ll keep you posted!
