Atlanta’s The-Dream talks producing Beyoncé's new single ‘Break My Soul’
They’ve done it again – the dynamic duo of The Dream’s genius work and Beyoncé's killer voice has struck again.
Beyoncé just released her latest single, “Break My Soul” and she has teamed up with longtime collaborator, Atlanta singer, songwriter and producer, The Dream. Dream says he was in charge of about “70%” of “Break My Soul” and that there’s actually an interesting story behind how the two hooked up for the single. “It’s crazy how it happened,” Dream said. “I can’t wait until she tells the actual details of how exactly this happened because it’s super intimate and cool.”
Dream has worked with Beyoncé on several songs before, including two of her hits, “Partition” and “Single Ladies.” As far as working on this song, it was a unique situation. “This song was one of those ones that was a little different, and just over time piecing it together as far as trying to make sure it gets to her in the right way -- Because as I can hear it in my head and how it should unfold, it’s up to me to make the right call to make sure I get to the person who does that particular thing super well,” Dream said.
“Break My Soul” has been the talk of the social media streets since its release. The dance anthem has been a part of the recent conversation on the return of house music. If you recall, just a few days ago, Drake dropped his new album, “Honestly, Nevermind” – which caused a social media frenzy about the rapper’s seemingly change of genre.
So, what do we think about Drake and Beyoncé releasing music that may not configure with their traditional sound? Let’s start with Drake. Drake’s album was highly anticipated, yet for some, it missed the mark. I’m not opposed to trying a new sound, but I think the issue is we didn’t get a variety from Drake; it almost sounded like one continuous song, until the very last one. Beyoncé seems to have more listeners on her side, because one, she’s Beyoncé. Two, it’s a single, so we don’t know what variety we’ll be getting from Beyoncé when her album drops, July 29.
While there is a lot of conversation about Drake and Beyoncé and their new songs, one thing is for sure – they are pushing the house music genre to the forefront once again.
