Jermaine Dupri talks joint project with Curren$y, Atlanta hip-hop and more
You know it’s going to be a good day when you get to sit down with music royalty like Jermaine Dupri, and that’s exactly what Access Atlanta got to do!
He’s spent years contributing to the music business, and by the looks of it, JD doesn’t plan on slowing down any time soon. Access Atlanta got the chance to catch up with the media mogul about all that he has going on, including his latest project with Curren$y, “For Motivational Use Only.”
The two connected after Curren$y released a song titled “Jermaine Dupri.”
“If somebody makes a song and titles it ‘Jermaine Dupri’ or titles it your name period, the least you can do is try and create a project with that person,” Dupri told Access Atlanta.
The two recently performed the seven-song project during their show at The Eastern. What was really cool about their performance is that they created a full studio on the stage.
“We don’t have a date; we don’t have much conversation about it at all at this point,” Dupri said. “It’s definitely going to happen at some point, I don’t know if it’s this year or when it’s happening.”
“I feel like we owe it to the culture because people just want to see it.”
Speaking of what people want to see, it was recently announced that Hulu will be releasing “Freaknik: The Wildest Party Never Told.” The Jermaine Dupri-produced documentary “recounts the rise and fall of a small Atlanta HBCU picnic that exploded into an influential street party and spotlighted ATL as a major cultural stage,” according to Hulu’s description.
The music producer also had some encouraging words for the ladies of XSCAPE, the award-winning group he signed in 1993. The group members are currently going through a bit of turmoil on their Bravo television show, “The Queens of R&B.”
